Bica 04:32
Here we are now in Bica Arranging thoughts in my head Belem, Alfama, the Mercado Finally here in Bica Having trouble finding a home Dreams of Portland, the desert, and you know But time to be here now, on St. Anthony‘s day There were mermaids atop the calçada Bica, I don’t want to be anywhere else Let it go, forget now People were out celebrating Old rituals had begun, plans were made Young ladies looking for a suitor, The day arrived, it had come at last Bica, the spirit here was so alive Seize the day, seize the night Please be here, by my side On the plane home, in my ears A song that I know upsets me deeply And I know it got you too What a funny time we’re living through Bica, I’ve got questions, have you got the answers? With it all in front of me

Family Tree 03:40
Forget the family tree Forget what you see Put it all behind And we’ll recover Until then we’ll meet Until then we’ll greet Formally, hands shaking And we’ll recover, we’ll recover Forget now, Forget now While we’re still here Not while we’re here Not right here Forsake the family tree For what’s here today Don’t you forget about me And we’ll recover, we’ll recover, we’ll recover So Goodbye, Goodbye What does it mean a legacy, a fallacy Don’t let the ties that bind Force us away At arm’s-length, at bay And we’ll recover, we’ll recover, we’ll recover

Valencia 03:41
All that counts is here Petals on the rocky sea Smoking cigars And listening to the tree Catch your next breath Catch your next breath What is my dream? My dream is here with you Walking on Balmès afraid, afraid Where the men crave the same Catch your next breath Your next breath Around the question goes How, when, to answer As it all comes into view The choice we made, here, unspoken Catch your next breath Your next breath As dusk slips away The night unfolds the scene Deep in the heart, deep in the beat That’s where I want to be After every step After all of this Work it out with me

I needed, wanted, something to get me through this I had to follow you down from this higher place Let fly, Don’t let your eagle die Oh what joy, the wind as collider with me Turbulent but free, Take me higher, up and under Let fly, Don’t let your eagle die Give me courage, faith, and good reason To keep me here, let the sky carry me Glide through the night Arc into the sky (glide, glide), Arc into the sky Let fly, Don’t let your eagle die Arise, arise Fly, survive It’s hard to survive The night, sunrise

Sometimes, enough is enough For it takes up all the hours of the day, that I’ve got What would I give, for it to not be the same I know what it takes, but I just can’t get it I know why it is, but I just can’t have it all It’s been a long time, to waste all of mine The whole room shakes, the silence breaks, The damage it does What the damage now awakes Unearthed inside of me I know why it aches and how to cure it I know what to do now to ease it You had your time, get out of mine I know what it takes, but I just can’t get it I know why it is, but I just can’t have it all You had your time, get out of mine Enough is enough, enough is enough is enough Enough is enough, enough is enough is enough, is enough To take all my time, To waste all of mine, You had your time, Get out of mine

Fear No End 03:42
So let go, time won’t stop For no one, constant it goes Count them all, counting all the stars Into the night, I let fly arrows I fear no end, I fear no I fear no end Find another way, another light Burn all your desires, into the night So tell all, your hopes and fears Time will pass, see it turn I fear no end, I fear no I fear no end I fear no end, I fear no I fear no end
7.
Swimmer 05:47
Well it could be worse, And not have the choice, Relax, Take it easy What’s there to worry about Now you’ve clawed it all back Like the swimmer who can’t swim I needed to know, how it goes I tried to learn how, the lengths that we take But I did not realise, freedom, fear, hand-in-hand together with them, be free again So here I go, push away from the edge Down the middle, around the bend People stop, stare, I’m not the only one about But it don’t matter, You got out there and went for it The doer, your future Not the watcher, but participator, the racer, go-getter Faster, forward, here we go Like the swimmer needs the shore The people helped me out of the water The joy it gave to me ‘Are you crazy’ one guy said ‘You’re not supposed to go in there’ I missed the signs As I went faster, Faster, forward, further, deeper I left them all way back, I left them all way back I can’t remember the way back, I left them all way back Like the swimmer needs the shore, Like the swimmer needs the shore
8.
Wax Wings 04:20
Slowly with love, Wax wings Though I got down, the best Part was up, at least I got up Scribbled on the door, the beauty I saw On the bottom to the left All good things come to an end So why not just start again Wax wings Helped me to fly, all through the night.

about

Vesu’s debut album ‘Vesu’ brims with melodic, atmospheric, songs capturing those freeze frame moments in life.
With a minimalist alt-rock aesthetic the songs traverse a loud/quiet dynamic full of lilting harmonies and heady guitar drones.

The 8 songs evolved from a reflective and transitional time, weighing those big life questions where you learn that, sometimes, you have to let go to move on.
Inspiration came from random encounters, human connection, romantic love, failure, change, and ultimately the need to celebrate and embrace the moment.

Self-recorded using an ipad during much of the 2nd Covid lockdown, Mike and Saphia sent the outline tracks to Chris, who recorded the drums in his attic, so it’s a pretty DIY affair. It was mastered by Neil Sullivan in Canterbury at mymixmaster.co.uk.

The artwork is by Folkestone based artist Sarah Carpenter (www.sarahcarpentercreative.co.uk). The band were drawn to her work as she often works with collage and ‘found’ imagery that responds to a theme or inspiration point. Sarah very much captured the sense of the songs and the album's ethos.
